Simple Man Part 2

We made it back to pick up some more wood. I brought my camera this time.
The cabin he lived in, built by himself.
The sweet pregnant coon dog with Makayla.
The pigeon coop. He had quite a few homing pigeons.

It really is a beautiful spot.

Thinking Outside the Box

Remember the boxes I picked up the other day? Well I transformed the one on top already.
Here it is, OK but I knew it could make a statement.
Here it is after with black and white stripes.

Simple Man

Well last night we set out to check out the amazing stack of windows that were advertised on craigslist. We met up with Dina, a sweet lady who was cleaning out her fathers home. Let me tell you his home was great! He had built it himself he was a simple man with no electric, plumbing or indoor bathroom. Apparently it was his dream to live this way once he retired. The cabin he lived in was amazing and there was also a pigeon coup he built as well. I am so disappointed I didn't take my camera, BUT we are probably going back this weekend as there was a ton of wood perfect for signs! So I will get some pictures.

This is what I came home with.
Out of all that only two windows.
Some amazing table legs or railing posts.
This fabulous mirror that can hopefully be reassembled.
Just love the carved detail!
Some decorative pieces off of old dressers.

Some old boxes
A fabulous glass knob!
My favorite find, these amazing signs from a local bakery that was open in the 80's. These were in their burn pile but after Dina saw my blog she pulled them out for me, isn't she the best!

A metal plant stand
There were so many treasures! Her father obviously had vision for all of these things and I am sure that is why he collected them, a junker after my own heart!

Windows

I am going to see a women tonight about some windows, some serious windows. I am SO excited! Perhaps I am strange to have such a passion for old windows but I can't help it. (photo was borrowed from the Craigslist ad)

Junk Drawers

Another curbside find that certainly has seen better days. A little paint goes along way.

Since the top drawer was broken I created a shelf that now holds a basket for all your junk.
Some sweet birdies on the top
This would be great in any room.

Proverbs 31:16

I recently had a request for another custom sign. It turned out fabulous! It is a gift from one friend to another, I am sure she will love it.

Quick Makeover

I picked up this small display/shelf? Not exactly what it was used for, it was missing the actual shelf part. I am guessing they were glass. It was a lovely gold color (forgot to take a picture before I painted it black)Cut some luan to fit
Painted it all black. Now it is a perfect display for some of my white pitchers.
Thanks so much for all the great advise on my dining room! I am definitely gonna beef up the chair railing, I never even thought of that. Still not exactly sure on the color but I will share the outcome soon.

Color Help

I painted my dining room below the chair rail and added this damask stencil. Now I am stuck on what to do on top. I need your suggestions! Do I go with the same color (the kitchen is this color too, I wanted to tie the rooms together as they are connected by a large island) or would that be too much? Go with white? Cream? I just am not sure.

Wood Chandelier

The other day I was reading Chez FiFi's blog, which is always so inspiring. I saw this old wood chandelier she picked up in France. I feel in love with it immediately. You can see it in the borrowed photo below. Since I am not going to France anytime soon I created my own.Using table legs and spindles we (meaning Chris) assembled this.
Had a few leftover crystals that work perfectly.
So happy with they way it turned out. How beautiful it will be lit up at night in the garden.

Refurbished Headboards

I was super excited to see Funky Junk Interiors Saturday Night Special's theme was refurbished headboards. You can find discarded headboards everywhere and the uses are endless. My favorite is to use them as a canvas for a sign or artwork. The one below hangs in my yard and makes a wonderful art piece.
Another one I had painted.

Of course they make great benches. This one is my all time favorite.
I love the red of this one.
Please go visit the others for Saturday Nite Special # 30

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work:

If one falls down,
his friend can help him up.
But pity the man who falls
and has no one to help him up!

Lets Go For a Walk

This is Pine Bush Road, we walk this road as much as possible. There are a lot of hills but you feel so great after walking them. Enjoy!
