Happy Earth Day!

We try to be environmentally friendly here. We recycle, use reusable bags, only use compact fluorescent bulbs, and turn off lights when not in use. (well we try really hard anyway) I am either proud or embarrassed to say we have only bought 2 pieces of furniture new, our TV cabinet and a bakers rack. All couches, tables, chairs etc were bought used or given to us. I think that qualifies as we are keeping things out of the landfill. (at least that is what I keep telling myself)

I also use recycled/re purposed wood for my signs whenever I can. I am fortunate enough to have people give me wood so I am able to make signs. My friends husband works for a local monument company and I am able to get crates that are used in shipping the monuments. My neighbor bought their home from an old man who use to work at the Library Bureau (they made furniture) and he had brought tons of wood home. They let me have it all I just had to carry it out. I spent 2 whole days carrying load after load of wood from their basement to ours. It was a lot of work but so worth it as I got TONS of great wood to use. Below is a picture of a huge pile in our basement, Chris keeps telling me I need to organize it, but thats no fun. My friends and family know what I like or what I might be able to use, so I get lots of stuff. If I can't use it I pass it along.

So I believe I am trying to do my part, how about you?
