Not me, my blog. After a few weeks of debating I have decided to move onto another blog, Altered Life. I hope you will join me there. This will be about everything, my family, painting, up-cycling, roller derby experience. So it will not only be about my signs and painting. I may come back and update Signs of Obsession from time to time, it is just time to make a change as my life is always altering. CNY Roller Derby

I know I have been MIA for what seems like forever! Now that I have downsized my space at The Shops at 25 West I find myself getting things cleaned and organized. Spring cleaning if you will. I have a few custom things I am working on so I shall have some pictures soon. I have mentioned before my desire to try Roller Derby. For the last month or so I have been going to the open skate on Friday nights. So far I am loving it, granted we are only skating so far but I love watching everyone run their drills. Downsizing

Well my move is finally complete. Had a HUGE sale sold most of my inventory (yeah, didn't have to move it.) Here is my new space. A big empty canvas. Some old doors fill the wall space nicely. So even is the items on top are sold it will still be nice to look at.

Some old book pages papered on the wall and of course a chandelier. I think it looks great. This should be easier for me to keep up with.

So now that the move is complete I should have a bit more time for my sad neglected blog.

I had all theses dollies (snowflakes) left over from my elevator display. I figured I should put them to good use. My friend Barbara (whose picture was in this previous post) stitched them all together to make a great runner for my table. I love it!

Twin Topiaries

I originally painted one of these topiaries.(sp) Nothing written on it and no scrolls. One of my very best and sweetest customers wanted something to put her girls info on. She liked to topiary and wanted a second one and scrolls painted in the background. A very good choice indeed, it looks wonderful!

I am getting spring fever. I crave warm weather and sunshine. Butterflies remind me of summer so I decided to hang some in my kitchen. I gathered all my wire lamp shades, hung them from the ceiling and added some butterflies.

Of course the weather had to ruin my wishful thinking. It snowed like crazy on Saturday and then turned to sleet. What a mess.

We had two of our nephews over night this weekend. I am not use to that many little ones running around. They decided to be warriors, eyeliner face paint and all.

Snow Day

Yes I had a snow day Wednesday, the first one in a really long time. Luckily it didn't get nearly as bad as what was predicted. I felt guilty for a while about not going to work. Got over it quickly though, LOL

I spent the day painting. I finished painting our dining room table, painted the TV cabinet white and painted some sewing drawers. It has been a while since I have painted, it was nice. I may be over my painters block, LOL

I had to document this. All three working together making apple turnovers. This lasted for about ten minutes then they were all back to fighting and hating each other.

Saturday

We started out our Saturday at a local indoor Farmers Market held at Parkers Clapsaddle Farm. It was held inside this great old barn. There weren't too many vendors but we did get some apples that Kimberly later made us a wonderful pie and some apple butter. The girls from Zhoozh, Inc were there too. They create wonderful clothing and accessories from various fabric and old clothing.

I bought this awesome neck art. I just LOVE it!

Kimberly picked out this amazing barrette. She loves it and later told me there were some other ones she liked. SO we will defiantly be buying more!

Of course Makayla couldn't walk away empty handed. She fell in love with all the doll houses built by Scrap Wood Furniture. Here is the one she got with Donald who build all these wonderful creations. He does have a website , you can check it out HERE.

Later after Chris was home from work we decided to take a ride up north. It was so pretty out!

This is our uncle and aunts farm just love how the snow is on all the trees.

We had a wonderful Saturday! We still haven't (Makayla has gone twice) went sledding and it is just too cold today.

It's been a nice break. Unfortunately I have been staying busy, too busy. Still getting up at 5:30 to go to the gym each morning. Getting ready for Roller Derby! Finished up some custom work as well. Painted the three tables below. Created a sign for a local salon. Sorry about the coloring I guess I still haven't figured out my camera yet.

My Goals

Or maybe resolutions? I have been jotting some things I want to focus on this year.

I am going to take a shot at CNY Roller Derby. I am so excited about this. I will be taking a 4 week class mid February and then another 12 week class. Even if I never make it on a team at least I can say I gave it a shot!

I am a newly appointed to the Board of Directors for the Mohawk Valley Center for the Arts. I want to really focus on how I can help the organization grow. It really is wonderful to have a center in our community while so many others have lost theirs.

I want to focus more on custom orders.

I plan on downsizing my space at The Shops at 25 West. I love it there and don't intend on leaving but I find myself stressing about having new pieces there and having my space arranged and perfect and focusing less on painting and creating. I think it is time for me to downsize a bit so I can get back to really enjoying what I do. Of course I will be selling goodies at The Chicks Show and possibly the Garlic Festival.

So those are some of my plans this year! Of course I will share everything along the way!

In between finishing up some orders, decorating and shopping for Christmas I painted two tables. The dressing table below needed some funk so zebra it was! How cute would this be in a girls bedroom with lots of pink! This end table got a fresh coat of black paint and some great glass handles. I am so behind in my posts this one has already sold!
Are you all ready for Christmas? I am NOT just started shopping yesterday. I do this every year you would think I would have learned by now.

Christmas in Little Falls Recap

Well Saturday was absolutely beautiful here! The weather was perfect, people were out and about and extremely friendly! Sales were great for the 5 hours we were at the Indoor Market. We also got some media coverage for The Chicks Along the Canal which we shared on the Chicks Facebook page. (Feel free to "LIKE" us) Really only had 2 complaints. It was very dark inside. I think we ended up with the darkest corner in the place. You can see in the picture below. We borrowed a portable flashlight so we could spotlight our goods if needed. It was also very cold. It actually felt colder inside then it was outside. Does that make any sense?

I met some really great people and it really was a wonderful time! I also found out there is a local Roller Derby team, I never knew that! More on that later though.

Christmas in Little Falls

This weekend there are big festivities going on. I will be participating in an indoor farmers market. There will be farmers, artists and crafters. You can read about all the other activities HERE. Parisienne Farmgirl Inspiration

Have you visited her before? Her family, home and blog are all beautiful. She decorated her chandeliers so beautiful for Christmas. She inspired me to give it a try. I didn't buy anything just used what I had. Some greenery, red berries, dried hydrangea. It looks better in person, hard to capture on a cell phone picture (sure hopes Santa will bring me a camera, hint hint)

She also has an amazing sign hanging in her living room. You know I am a sucker for beautiful signs. I recreated it with some wood and a decorative piece off of an old dresser. I love how it looks, this is the view from my living room into the dining room.

Holiday Display

I had the opportunity to decorate the elevator space at The Shops at 25 West. Apparently I thought I have lots of extra time, LOL. I wanted to do something a bit different not necessarily all red and green. I used old dollies as snowflakes attaching them to the wall, I will be adding more hanging down from the ceiling this weekend. The starch didn't keep them as stiff as I would have liked. Someone suggested sugar water, anyone ever used this? What consistency?

I also had Chris build me some "Christmas Trees" out of poplar trees. I think they are adorable and really not difficult. We (Chris) used some branches from a fallen tree, cutting them 2 inches smaller for each branch, drilled holes in them and stacked them on a dowel rod. I love how they are rustic and terribly simple.

Of course I had to have a window in there and I made one of those awesome book page wreaths everyone has created to go on top of it. I really like how it turned out, of course it looks much better in person! Stop by and see it. The Shops are open until 8PM this Friday, December 3rd and our Holiday Open House is Saturday!

The Mustard Seed

I have been helping my dear friends Juli and Gail at The Mustard Seed. I painted and turned this piano piece into an awesome sign for above the handmade soap. The picture doesn't do it justice. There is carved detail around the bottom but the picture is just too dark to see it.

Remember these? Well she hung them off of her awesome ladder system behind the register.

The sign is mobile as they took it to the show they recently did. Look in the right hand corner you can see it.

Sure wish I had one, then MAYBE I could find my before picture. Remember the dresser/secretary I picked up off the curb? I know I still can't believe someone threw this away! The mirror finally got re attached and a fresh coat of paint. I am so pleased with the way it turned out!

Basket Raffle

Dresser

Remember the estate sale I spoke about before? I picked up this dresser there too. We had to carry it down two flights of stairs and boy was it heavy. Obviously in need of a fresh look too.

While at Marshells the other day I found two chandelier decals on clearance. They were cute so I picked them up. I didn't want to put it on the wall so I attached one to an old mirror I had.

Congratulations Varsity Field Hockey!

Here are the senior girls, today was their last official game. The had a great run and were Champions in their division this year!

We were up at 4:30 am to make the team breakfast before they went out to play their sectional game. Unfortunately they lost but they had a GREAT year. I am so proud of Kimberly and the team! After six years of watching Field Hockey it has come to an end. I still don't understand the game, LOL

Stairway

Remember the paper treatment I did at my space in The Shops at 25 West? Well I LOVED it so much I decided to do it in my home too. I chose the stairway as I just wanted it to be an accent wall. It isn't finished as you can see in the picture but it looks great already. Over the paper I hung my favorite frames that I white washed. I hung a candelabra as well to add to the look.

I was difficult to get a good picture. My house is divided, my two daughters think it looks good. My son questions my choice and my husband only said I hope this isn't permanent, you aren't gluing it are you?

I will share the final "look" with you when it is all done. Have you done anything outragous in your home latley and LOVE how it turned out?

I am still alive! As I mentioned before my camera died, I feel so lost without it. Anyone know if you can have a camera repaired? Is there a camera repairman?? I dug out my old camera and took a bunch of pictures, couldn't find the cord to plug it in to the computer and I lost the camera. Just my luck! I did find it and next I will find that cord!

I haven't been creating too much things have been very busy! Tonight is Kimberly's last regular season Field Hockey game. Her team is undefeated in the league! They are playing amazingly this year! Sectionals are next but it won't be two to three games a week! In addition to Field Hockey my son plays football so add one game a week for that. Tomorrow is he last game and if they win they will also be undefeated! GO BOMBERS! One good thing is he plays JV so no playoffs. I am ready to have time to paint and create at night again and NOT eat dinner at 9 o'clock.

Estate Sales

I picked up these two pieces of furniture that were left over from an estate sale. It feels strange going through someones things after they are deceased. All their belongings spread out for people to pick through. I guess it makes me feel better that I am giving them new life. I really loved this chair and new it could be great.

This cute table was in the basement covered in cobwebs!

I picked up a sheet from Salvation Army for $1.00 that worked wonderfully to recover the cushion.

The table is just darling now with a stained top and white legs. I actually think these pieces go together quite well.

Sorry for the poor pictures my camera is still acting up, I may have to break down and buy a new one. I did dig out my old camera but of course I can't find the cord to load the pictures on the computer so I am stuck using my phone.

Not today, look at all that water. We have had a lot of rain so I guess this is the result.

Fresh Flowers

Well I am FINALLY starting to feel better. That really knocked me on my butt! I haven't been creative at all lately so I got to it! I have had this piece of wood fencing for some time now, waiting for inspiration to hit. This is actually inspired by a sign and a room divider screen.

Love the the colors in the background and the little design linking them.

Lettering on this was a little rough but it only gives it more character, don't you think?

I am pleased with the way it turned out.

17 Years

Yesterday we celebrated Kimberly's 17th birthday. 17 seriously?? She is a wonderful young lady who has wonderful ambition and plans for her future as she should. This is a strange birthday for me. I was seventeen when I had her and a senior in high school. WOW! She has made the comment a time or two on how she couldn't imagine having a baby at her age, as she shouldn't. I think back and I can't image NOT having her at my age. Of course things were not always easy and still can be stressful but we have accomplished so much compared to most teenage parents. I am so proud to be her mother and I can only hope she is proud to have me as her mother!

Week in Review

Has it really been over a week since I have posted? It has been very busy! Makayla and I made a quick trip last weekend to Ohio.

We had lunch in the park

We got home Sunday night and I woke up Monday morning sick.

I was a guest speaker on Tuesday night at a womens group. It went well too bad I was sick. I have now lost my voice, going on 2 days now. I hate it but I am sure hubby and kids love it.

I made some signs to giveaway as door prices.

I will try not to make it so long between posts, hopefully I will be back to normal soon.

Dream a little dream for me

Well here is what I have done so far...

Created this one of a kind tree out of an old dictionary? A bit out there perhaps, but I am sure it will be a conversation starter. It was hard to get a good picture the angle is strange.

Since I painted over the diamonds on the wall, I created a floor cloth out of an old piece of linoleum. So my diamonds didn't go away!

Yesterday was absolutely beautiful! It was the perfect day for the Garlic Festival. The group that organizes this did a wonderful job. There were lots of vendors and shoppers! A perfect combination!

In addition to lots of garlic there were lots of sunflowers. Of course a bouquet came home with me!

This was my view most of the day and I worked admission into the garlic festival and helped man The Shops at 25 West's booth.

I did get to sneak away for a few minutes to attend my friend Christine and Blase's salon opening. I even got a cute henna tattoo. I took this picture from their 3rd floor view.

Today it is raining so I am working on some signs of course, my presentation( which will be here before I know it), and some fun ideas for my booth. Which may include a paper tree and perhaps a painted floor cloth.

Garlic Festival

Remember my frame wall? I was able to add three more pictures to it. I Love the work of Amber she creates amazing altered art! You can visit her blog HERE. She is wonderful to work with and tries to create the art around the individuals interests. Everything can be done via email so even if you are not local you can have her create a one of a kind gift!

Makayla loves being outdoors, swinging and of course animals. This fits her perfect!

Kimberly's favorite color is purple, loves her kitty Luna and love the telephone because it seems like she is always on that!

Jonathan's is perfect for a 15 year old boy. Green is his color, loves music especially classic rock and collects license plates.

I am so happy with these and they represent them so well at this time in their life.

Wow its been awhile huh... I made a quick trip to Ohio and spent the weekend with my brother and his family. We hit the fair.

Side Table

I picked up this great little table at the end of the Chicks show. I fell in love with the legs and still can't believe that someone else didn't snag it.

I sanded and stained the top, painted and distressed the bottom and replaced the wood handle with an old glass knob.

Love how it turned out and I will be holding onto this one for a while.

I am still waiting to share the church sign with you we have had lots of rain so I haven't been able to hang it yet. Hopefully soon.

Random Saturday

I spent some time doing some rearranging, I grouped all my black frames around our altered art family portrait. My amazing friend Amber created it and is in the process of doing a few more for me, I can't wait!

I am loving the little cake stand I picked up.

and a new to me rug. It is faded to the perfect colors I love...creams and blacks. Chris doesn't get it and can't believe I spent money on such a thing. It was hard getting good picture of it. I also started re doing the table in our dining room. I got the top completely done and today its raining so now I can't work on the base and chairs, there always tomorrow.

We even squeezed in a trip to the fair.

I actually had the house to myself yesterday so I got a lot accomplished. The girls went to Enchanted Forrest Water Safari for the day with my aunt and Jonathan had football activities most of the day.

Inspired by this fabulous lady I painted this right on the glass. I loved how it turned out. It has already sold as I painted it quite awhile ago but neglected to post about it. So here it is!

Remember the sign I am re painting for the Historic Palatine Church? Well it is finally almost finished and I can't wait to share it with you.

Doors

Well I believe the door hall tree has SOLD! It didn't last long, I knew it wouldn't. There was an ad on Craigslist for free doors in Hamilton. My dear friend Juli sent me an email Thursday about them. With the Chicks show I wasn't able to make it there until today and they were still there! The one in front will become another hall tree. The others are old paneled doors and I have big plans for them. I am collecting doors to build a potting shed. I have a vision in my head on how it will look, whether or not that happens we shall see. I am hoping to collect enough to build it in the Spring.

This the the big Bouchville Antique show this weekend and they were already setting up. I sure want to go and hopefully I can make it there so I can shop at places like this.

Too bad they were closed...just look at all the great junk!

Door Hall Tree

I had someone give me this old red door, surpirising right? Well I have had it for a while and thought it would make a great hall tree. I finally got Chris motivated to work on it. He has been really busy working on our future cottage so it took some convincing. Here is the only before picture already in process. Two old doors were used to build the hall tree. (Don't mind the mess this was pre Chicks show so I was so busy painting so my counter was covered in signs, papers and paint)

Here is the after was some unifying paint. The bottom opens up for storage and we added some details to the door and of course mirror to where the glass would have been.

It did not sell at the chicks show so it is still available at The Shops at 25 West if anyone is interested.

Chicks Along the Canal

Yesterday was an amazing day! The weather was perfect. We had 24 chicks and lots of shoppers. Rather impressive for our first year.

I sold the cupcake sign this this sweet girl. It was so nice talking to her and all the other wonderful people. I was really surprised by all that knew me from my shop or my blog! What a great day!

What a busy week. We traveled about 1300 miles this week. A lot of driving but so much fun! We celebrated Grandma's 85th birthday. It was so fun seeing everyone. It has been way too long.

We did lots of walking

We are officially on vacation! Going to Ohio to help celebrate my Grandma's 85th birthday! She is the sweetest lady! I always had so much fun at her house. I wish I could spend more time with her.

My good friends from The Mustard Seed had a vision for a sign they could attach to their tent at the Farmers Market they sell at every Thursday. Here are the signs I did for them. This is just a sneak preview as I am waiting for the final pictures with them hanging from their tent. (Hopefully this Thursday, hint hint Juli!)

Vintage Dresser

Remember the dresser I was telling you about? Here it is. We found it in a basement leftover from an estate sale, its good to have connections because you get to go in a pick through whats left for a steal. This dresser was in the basement falling apart. I almost didn't take it but I could resist the carved drawers and glass knobs. All we had to do is put it back together. The locks even still work with a skeleton key. I just love the patina!

Anyone else find any treasures this weekend?

Shrinking Dresser

We picked up this dresser missing a drawer knowing Chris could work his magic on it and cut it down to size. He has done a wonderful job once again. It is now at The Shops at 25 West for sale if anyone is interested. I have sold a ton of furniture this month so I am scrambling to get things down there to replace what is gone. What a crazy month! We recently found an old dresser (falling apart) in a basement. It is beautiful with carved drawer fronts, locks on each drawer that still work with a skeleton key. Can't wait to share it with you.

I have been busy finishing up some custom signs. Here are two more that I recently completed. I find myself singing the hymn everything I walk by this sign.

Sorry for the lack of posting I have been busy with lots of quotes and orders. I recently took on an order for 17 signs. So between work, kids, and walking my 4 miles a day I am busy working on orders and painting furniture. Don't get me wrong I am not complaining but I wanted to get everything done before I go on vacation in 2 weeks.

A few months ago my cousin purchased her first home. Of course I wanted to give her something that would mean something. She chose these words because they describe what Christ did for us on the Cross, and they are a good reminder to me that I don't have to live a defeated or hopeless life but can instead have joy that God forgives my sins and welcomes me as His child.

I will be delivering this sign soon, I sure hope she loves it!

Tiffany and the Class of 2010! Today is the graduation party and I had the opportunity to paint the card box.

The box belonged to our Great Aunt and was made in 1971 for her birthday. She gave it to me to up cycle into a card box. It will then eventually become a keepsake box.

Even lined the inside.

Her monogram on top finishes it off.

The Chicks Along the Canal sign has been hung. It looks great, I am so pleased with how it turned out.

I also threw together a window display. Very minimal but still a great collection of up-cycled items. A window chalkboard, table leg chandelier and of course the piggy sign.

I was commissioned to re do this sign for the Historic Palatine Church. This Lutheran church was founded in 1749. They no longer use it for regular services but for a few throughout the year. I can't wait to get started, I will be sure to share the finished sign with you.

(This side of the sign isn't too bad, the other is extremely weathered.)

Home Sweet Home

This weekend we traveled for a quick trip to Ohio, where I grew up. In a quick day and a half we managed to see lots of family, get some of my favorite swiss cheese and do a little shipping.

In Charm Ohio is the Guggesburg cheese Factory. They have the best baby swiss cheese. Always grab a wheel when I am there. For more information you can visit their website here.

We also got to go to this amazing, funky store. I will visit them again.

Happy to be home! Now it is time to get back into the swing of things!

Junk Yard Days

We went to the junk yard for Chris to look for some parts. As you may or may not know sometimes they have what you need and sometimes they don't. Nothing for Chirs but I spotted this old Chevy truck, isn't great! The passenger side mirror is in great shape and so lovely! I thought it would make a great mirror that hangs on the wall in your bathroom. I moves all around so it will be perfect. I wanted it! So here is Chris taking it off. Leave it to me to find something in the junk yard he mumbles as he is taking it off. He IS the best!

Yesterday Makayla's school had a penny carnival. All activities were a penny each. Good times.

She made a picture frame decorated with colorful macaroni.

Cement Day

Today was the day we poured the slab...delivery was scheduled for seven this morning. The first truck finally showed up at eight fifteen. Luckily that was the only issue.

We couldn't have done it without a great family and friend crew.

One happy husband as we are one step closer.

I know I haven't been posting so much lately, but things have been busy. End of the school year, finals, and softball is finishing up this week with three games. I have also been getting ready for a show in August, Chicks along the Canal. I will be sharing more on this soon! Filling sign orders, training for my first 5K that I am running with my sisters, I could go on and on. Just typing this makes me tired!

Saturday is also a big day here. We are pouring concrete for a place we are putting in the country. I know I haven't talked about this before but there isn't too much to say about it yet. Chris and I have a 3 year plan to be mortgage free. We are putting in a mobile home and fixing it up, gutting and remodeling the inside and adding an addition. We are doing this without incurring ANY debt so when we are done we can sell our house and live mortgage free! That part excites me I mean being mortgage free by the time I am 40 well maybe even by 35

! As well as taking on the challenge of designing and decorating a new space. So I will be sharing this adventure from here on out on my blog too.
